Botanical Watercolor Course
Over three weeks, you'll build a solid foundation in drawing and watercolor techniques. In this botanical watercolor workshop, you’ll explore the timeless beauty of flowers, leaves, and plants—an ideal course for anyone looking to paint botanicals with greater ease and confidence.
By the end of the series, participants will have a working knowledge of watercolor fundamentals, a personal portfolio of botanical studies, and a clear path for continuing their artistic development independently.
Class 1 — Watercolor & Drawing Foundations: The Art of Looking Closely
We begin by learning to observe and draw simple flowers like dogwood and cherry blossoms. You’ll explore how paint and water interact to create dimensional, lifelike petals, while practicing essential techniques such as drawing from basic shapes, watercolor washes, gradients, and wet-on-wet application.
Class 2 — Form, Detail & Botanical Study: Flower Dissection
In this class, participants will work with more complex flowers like roses and will physically dissect flowers to better understand their structure. You’ll learn to render leaves, petals, and stems from real references, while exploring how light, shadow, and negative painting add depth and volume to botanical subjects.
Class 3 — Composition & Finished Work
In the final session, you’ll bring everything together in a complete botanical composition. We’ll cover arrangement, visual balance, and compositional flow while working with lush, multi-petal flowers like hydrangeas and sunflowers.
